求一些描述图表走势的英文
首先,不可否认,IELTS考试是目前国内外各种英语测试中公信度较高、科学性和客观性较强的一种,能够较客观地考察出一个人的实际英语能力。
然而我们也看到写作(口语部分也是如此)是IELTS考试中主观性较大的部分,存在主观给分的因素。
其实我们每年的高考作文阅卷也常出现两位阅卷老师评分迥异的情形。
虽然考官依据IELTS作文评分标准进行阅卷,但事实上考官潜意识里认为,作为EFL学习者的中国考生是不太可能在短短的60分钟用外语(英语)写出完美的文章,要达到英语native speaker的写作水平是不切实际的。
纵使极个别英语高手写出漂亮的文章,他们往往抱怀疑的态度:事先准备好的范文或剽窃?笔者曾经请考官在不知情的情况下批阅一些外籍教师写的范文,分数大多数为7-8分!可想而知,为什么考官笔下的8、9分是那么稀罕,也知道我们的目标不要定得过高的缘故了。
第二,IELTS作文体裁多,题材广,难度大。
既有信件写作,图表作文,也有议论文写作。
字数要求比国内任何英语测试都多,相比之下,CET4/6仅要求考生写一篇120/150字的短文,研究生入学考试要求写150字的短文,而TEM8(英专八级)要求考生写一篇不少于250字的文章。
此外阅卷考官全部是受过系统培训的native speakers,我们所犯的任何语法错误都逃不过他们锐利的眼睛,更不用提充斥整篇文章的CHINGLISH了。
对于G类考生而言,TASK 1(写一封150字的信件)并不是件难事;然而由于国内各个层次的英语教学甚少涉及图表作文,对于A类考生来说,TASK 1(图表作文)却是棘手的难题。
就拿笔者来说,虽然就读英语专业10年,且从事英语教学研究多年,但在接触IELTS写作之前,对图表作文知之甚少,笔者戏称是“自学成才”。
不少英语专业学生坦言,许多图表看不明白,别说用英语准确描述,连中文他们都不知所云!要写好图表作文,不仅需要良好的英语语言能力,同时应具备相应的分析、归纳能力;相对而言,文科学生对图表作文普遍心存恐惧。
不少国内外出版的雅思备考书籍都附有图表作文的模拟练习。
同时在六个国家出版的PASSPORT TO IELTS是目前最权威的备考教材,里面附有不少图表作文的练习,例如:描述冰箱冷凝器(condenser)运行的工作原理和流程,不少学员误认为是血液循环系统或者排污系统!还有一个练习要求考生用150字描述一把剃胡子刀(hand razor),虽然图不算太复杂,却也难倒不少考生——无话可说,很难写够150字,最后为了凑数,有些学员的图表作文写得犹如朱自清的《背影》——“每当看到这把剃胡子刀我就想起我亲爱的父亲”。
第三,除了图表作文令考生头痛不已,TASK 2(ESSAY)的难度也不小。
除了字数要求(250字)难倒不少考生,最令人生畏的是TOPIC之广泛。
目前全球已经出现的最高A类作文版本为V122,G类版本为V116。
去年下半年主要考题出自80-103之间,而今年上半年却出自104-122之间。
换言之,最保守估计,雅思题库中起码有100-200个写作话题供不同时期的考试使用。
根据数年来收集的雅思作文考题,笔者发现雅思作文话题题材异常广泛,包括科技、教育、健康、环保、犯罪、文化传统、时尚、体育运动、动物保护等等。
其实不少话题我们中文写作课都罕见,如“利用生物工程技术治疗不育症是否合情合理?”,“分析青少年肥胖和懒惰的成因,提出相应对策”,“电脑可以翻译各种语言了,所以小孩没必要学习外语了,同意否?”。
难怪不少同学感叹道:“这些题材用汉语也不见得能飞洒自如,有感而发!”
