高姓是当今中国姓氏排行第十五位的大姓，人口众多，约占全国汉族人口的百分之一点二一。

得姓始祖

高奚。春秋时期，姜太公六世孙文公吕赤的儿子受封于高邑（今河南省禹州市西南），称为公子高。公子高之孙奚和齐襄公的弟弟公子小白是好朋友。当时，公孙无知发动内乱，杀了齐襄公。奚联合诸大臣一齐平定内乱，诛杀了公孙无知，迎立公子小白为君，就是后来的齐桓公。奚因为平乱迎君有功，被封为上卿，并赐他以祖父公子高的名为姓，称为高氏。高姓就这样诞生了。高奚作为高姓的始祖，受到世代子孙的尊敬和爱戴。

繁衍播迁

高姓虽然发源于今河南省境内，但春秋以后却以齐鲁之地高氏居多。据史料所载，战国到秦汉时期，高姓已可能迁入河北、辽宁境内。秦汉三国时期，随着政局的几度分合，人口迁徙频繁，高姓人氏渐活动于海河流域，黄河上、下游，淮河流域，长江上、下游地区。两晋南北朝时，战乱频繁，高姓人氏大举南迁，“广陵”郡望便是在这一时期所形成的。隋唐时，有书记载，河南有陈氏父子率军开辟漳郡，其中有高氏参加，另河南高姓族人高钢入迁闽地（今福建）。此时县（今河北景县）仍是继东汉以来高姓主要的聚居地。五代时期，有陕州硖石（今河南三门峡市）人在江陵府（今湖北荆州市）建南平国。有太原（今山西太原）人高彦俦到四川后蜀政权为官。在此期间，江南江北都有高姓人活动。两宋时期，高姓人为避战乱由中原向江南迁徙。如开封高琼后裔定居于海宁、临安、温州、山阴，合肥人高彻定居于晋陵。元明清时期，高姓人多集聚于东南地区，尤以江苏、浙江地区最为集中。今日高姓主要分布在江苏、福建、广东、江西、云南等地。

郡望堂号

在长期的繁衍过程中，高姓形成许多郡望，据《广韵》所载，主要有五个：1、渤海郡，治所在浮阳（今河北沧州）；2、渔阳郡，治所在今北京市密云县西南；3、广陵郡，治所在今江苏扬州市；4、河南郡，治所在雒阳（今河南洛阳市东北）；5、辽东郡，治所在襄平（今辽宁省辽阳市）。
