big bigger biggest
hot hotter hottest
sad sadder saddest
④ 少数以y,er(或ure),ow,ble结尾的双音节词,末尾加er和est(以y结尾的词,如y前是辅音字母,把y变成i,再加er和est,以e结尾的词仍只加r和st)
clever cleverer cleverest
narrow narrower narrowest
noble nobler noblest
angry angrier angrest
different
different more
different most
只能说 more beautiful而不能说beautifuller; 只能说the most beautiful而不能说beautifullest。
know→known)只能加more或most来表示它们的比较级和最高级
more(most) striking, more(most) interesting, more(most) wounded,
more(most)worn等。
absolute fatal main right universal
chief final naked simulta- utter
entire foremost perfect neous vital
eternal inevitable possible sufficient whole
excellent infinite primary supreme wooden
good
well better best
many
much more most
little
few less least
far farther arthest
further furthest
hard→harder →hardest
fast→faster →fastest
late→later →latest
early→earlier →earliest
well →better →best
much →more →most
badly →worse →worst
quickly →more quickly →most quickly quietly →more quietly →most quietly 〔注〕: early中的ly不是后缀,故可以把y变i再加er和est

1、John runs faster than Tom.
2、John is more a teacher than a poet.
3、This is more than I can tell you.
但为什么不说Tom runs slower than John呢?
They are asked to strive for lower birth rate.
John does not run faster than Tom.
John runs no faster than Tom.
A big elephant is no more an animal than a little cat.
Having children makes you no more a parent than having a piano makes you a pianist.
The man is more dead than alive.
Comparison, more than reality, make men happy or wretched.
He has better sense than be carried away by success.
You might have been more careful.
I had expected better judgment from you.
